In early 2014 the City of Sydney called for architects to express their interest in the redevelopment of this site to become a revitalised recreational park and aquatic centre. Surface Design assisted Andrew Burgess Architects with their proposal and Surface Design have been engaged on the project to deliver Façade, Materials Science and Sustainable design services.

Gunyama Park and Green Square Aquatic Centre has been designed to create a leisure and fitness complex that caters for all public needs. The facility will include a 50m heated outdoor pool for lap swimming and play, 25m program pool for swimming lessons, an indoor leisure pool with a range of interactive toys, including water spraying devices and tipping buckets for kids, hydrotherapy pool, crèche with indoor and outdoor play areas, outdoor synthetic multipurpose sports play-field, equipped gymnasium and outdoor training circuit and outdoor playground. The project will incorporate a number of sustainability initiatives that promote energy and water efficiency.
